Vote Marcia Masulla * Tennessee Democrats Executive Committee * District 19 *
Democracy is not guaranteed—it endures because people choose, generation after generation, to fight for it together.
I believe in people. I believe in community. And I believe that when ordinary people come together, there is no challenge too great and no future beyond our reach. The stakes facing our nation have never been higher. This is not the time to retreat into fear, cynicism, or silence. It is time to stand up, speak out, and defend the democratic values that make progress possible.
Top Priorities for Tennessee
Cost of Living and Economic Stability
For most people, this is the issue. It’s not theoretical—it’s rent, groceries, childcare, and whether their paycheck stretches far enough.
Democrats should be leading with a clear commitment to:
Lower everyday costs
Expand tax relief for working families
Address housing affordability in a real, scalable way
Hold corporations accountable when prices rise without justification
Healthcare That People Can Actually Afford
Access doesn’t mean much if people still can’t afford to use it.
Protecting the Affordable Care Act is foundational, but the work now is about:
Lowering prescription drug costs
Expanding Medicaid where it hasn’t been expanded
Investing in mental health and maternal care
Reproductive Freedom
Since Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, this is no longer hypothetical.
This is about whether people have the ability to make their own healthcare decisions—full stop. Democrats should be unequivocal in protecting:
Access to abortion
Access to contraception
The right to make personal medical decisions without political interference
Immigration That Is Orderly, Fair, and Humane
Human Rights and Equal Protection Under the Law
Protecting Democracy and Access to the Ballot
We can be a nation of laws and a nation of values at the same time.
Right now, the focus should be:
Securing the border with smart, modern infrastructure and staffing
Fixing a broken immigration system so it actually works
Providing a clear, earned pathway to legal status for long-term residents
Protecting Dreamers and keeping families together
Rights are not selective. They either exist for everyone, or they erode for all of us.
That includes:
Protecting LGBTQIA+ individuals from discrimination in housing, employment, and healthcare
Ensuring transgender people can live safely and access necessary care
Strengthening enforcement of civil rights protections across the board
Education and Opportunity
Duh.
This is about:
Making voting more accessible, not harder
Ensuring elections are fair, secure, and trusted
Protecting the fundamental right to participate in our democracy
Infrastructure and Visible Progress
People should be able to see where their tax dollars are going.
That means:
Better roads, sidewalks, and transit
Reliable infrastructure
Investments that improve quality of life in tangible ways
Education is still one of the most direct paths to economic mobility.
The focus should be:
Strong public schools
Workforce development aligned with real jobs
Affordable pathways to higher education and training
